SONGS FROM THE SIXTH BOROUGH COMPILATION OUT NOW!
To celebrate their third anniversary of being a part of Philly's music scene, Plain Parade organizers Sara Sherr and Maria Tessa Sciarrino asked local bands to share a cover by another Philly artist, past or present. The Jane Anchor contributed their version of The A's hit “C.I.A." The choice of song was an easy one as TJA guitarist Brian Wilkinson's uncle was The A's drummer! Dan DeLuca from the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote, "The healthiness of the underground scene is demonstrated on Songs From the Sixth Borough (***), a download-only compilation of local bands such as Hail Social, the Method and Result, and the Jane Anchor that's cleverly conceived and exceptionally well executed." Listen to a free stream of SFTSB and purchase the digital download for only $8, courtesy of Apollo Apollo.

SECOND WAVE REVIEWED IN BIG TAKEOVER ISSUE # 56

Second Wave is featured in the spring issue of the Big Takeover! Here's a sneak peek.. "This co-ed quartet delivers deliciously bittersweet, mid-tempo guitar-pop with soaring harmonies and bristling guitar chords that sink in on impact. If it's immediacy and consistency you're craving, Second Wave will be a revelation." Pick up Issue #56 (Interpol on cover) and read all about it.

TJA OPENING FOR SHONEN KNIFE

Come on out to the North Star Bar on Tuesday, March 8 to help us welcome Shonen Knife from Japan! This is going to be a really fun show with local rockers Beretta 76 also on the bill! "Last we looked, Shonen Knife was all about robots, space pandas, Barbie, jellybeans and Jonathan Richman. Comprised of Michie Nakatani (vocals, bass) and sisters Naoko (vocals, guitar) and Atsuko Yamano (drums), Shonen Knife formed in 1981, but didn't get their 15 minutes of fame until nearly 10 years later when they won props from Kurt Cobain and Sonic Youth.” Read more from the Philadelphia Weekly Editor's Pick here.

SINGER'S ANCHOR SET IN LOCAL SCENE
The Jane Anchor was featured in the January 21, 2005 edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Patrick Berkery wrote, "Second Wave is a consistently melodic, ready-for-prime-time mix of spry guitar rock and nicely harmonized moments of acoustic introspection." Click here to read the entire article.

BEST LOCAL CD OF 2004
The Jane Anchor's debut full-length "Second Wave" was named one of Philadelphia City Paper's Best Local CDs of 2004. M.J. Fine of the City Paper wrote, "With her charming combination of vulnerability and resolve, Kara Lafty makes indie-pop songcraft sound effortless. The Jane Anchor's first full-length is sticky sweet with all the boy-girl harmonies, jangly guitars and kinetic energy that Lafty and crew deliver live, but it also shows them occasionally taking a smoother road. They've been heading in the right direction from the start, and it's always good to have an alternate route."

SECOND WAVE
REVIEWED ON MISH MASH

"The Jane Anchor is the latest vehicle for indie songstress/guitarist Kara Lafty (formerly of Moped & Sonny Sixkiller), and her new group gells seamlessly with plenty of pop melodies dancing over dissonant chords. The tunes are crafty and catchy, but they don't let the sweetness take over--the big guitars and driving drums make sure of that. This one deserves to be turned up loud." -- Mish Mash Indie Music Reviews (December 2004)

TJA FEATURED IN THE PHILADELPHIA CITY PAPER
"Honed and polished in all her earlier musical projects, Lafty's signature style—call it finessed aggression—has arrived at a self-assured comfort zone on The Jane Anchor's first full-length, Second Wave (Lark Lane). It's a smart, assertive, emotive reflection of her reborn songwriting courage. Live show staples "Crawl," "Sinner" and "Give Me a Reason" are polished and preserved. Intense new tracks such as the fierce "Skyline" and introspective "Anniversary" rock out, but meticulously. No surprise there; Lafty's a perfectionist." Read the entire article here.

TJA IN PHILADELPHIA METRO

TJA IN PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY
Our upcoming Record Release Party (11/6) is featured in the Philadelphia Weekly's Arts & Entertainment section. "Like the justly beloved Just Wait EP, Wave is a jumpy, infectious showing from Kara Lafty and bandmates, all sinew and smiles sewn neatly into soaring jangle-pop." -- Doug Wallen, Philadelphia Weekly

TJA HEADS SOUTH + NEW TJA PROMO SQUAD
We took our show on the road this summer for acoustic performances in North Carolina and Georgia. Thanks to everyone who came out to see us, bought our EP, and signed our mailing list. We've been hard at work putting the finishing touches on our full-length cd, and we're looking for people to help spread the word about TJA. If you are interested in helping us promote the band and our upcoming CD, please join the TJA Promo Squad by sending us an email with your name and location.

TJA OPENS FOR JULIANA HATFIELD & FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE
The final stretch...we're mixing songs this month for our debut full length record! Everything is sounding real good thanks to our pal/engineer Cliff Hillis. We hope to release the record this fall. It will feature 11 songs. Stay tuned for the release date. Thanks to those of you who came out to the Khyber to see us open for Ambulance Ltd. and On The Speakers. Both bands were great and we especially recommend picking up a copy of On The Speakers' ep here. We have a couple shows coming up next month to tell you about. TJA will be playing with Fountains of Wayne at Freedom Fest '04, on July 4 in Lancaster. Bring your flags and wave 'em in our faces as we rock yours off. We will also be opening for Juliana Hatfield and The Damnwells on July 7 in Philly. Come on out and show your support! Must get back to BBQ'ing now... See you soon.

SPRING... SHOWS... RADIO... RECORDING...
First off, spring has sprung! Despite last year's failed attempt at urban gardening, I am committed in 2004 to grow at least one tomato. While I wait for my seeds to grow, TJA will be heading out of town for some shows. Here we come Boston, Baltimore, Dewey Beach, New York City, Washington! If you live in these areas and need a good dose of rock, please come out to see us. We will also be playing a local Philly show on 4/19, opening up for The Butchies, and Kimya Dawson (of the Moldy Peaches)! This will surely be a fun show and ALL AGES are welcome. We mentioned previously that our Just Wait EP is being played on several college radio stations across the country. Thank you to KMSU, XTSR, KSTM, WYBF, WTUL, KSMR, KUMD, KQAL, KGFN, WKDU, WPRB, WRDP, KCRW, WMWC, and WSAM for adding us so quickly to their rotation. In other news, the studio sessions are going wonderfully! We have about half the record complete. Everything is sounding amazing thanks to our good friend and engineer Cliff Hillis. If you're not familiar with Cliff, check out his website here and keep a lookout for his new solo record coming out soon. Cheers.

SLEEP DEPRIVATION + SUGAR = MAKING MUSIC
TJA is currently holed up in the studio writing and recording our first full-length record, to be released in fall 2004. Sleep deprivation, temper tantrums and sugar have been the fuel for creating beautiful music this time around. Exciting times for TJA are ahead as we will be taking our show out of town with dates lined up in both NYC and Baltimore. We will also be playing a few BIG local Philly shows, including opening for Merge Records recording artist, The Rosebuds! TJA has been gaining airplay on several college radio stations across the country over the past month, so keep calling to make your requests. If your local college station doesn't have a copy of our EP, "Just Wait," let us know and we'll be sure to rush it to them. As always, thanks for your support.
